Homework Packet Due Every Friday

Homework packets will be sent home Monday and due every Friday. These packets are a review of the skills we are learning in school. They will hone your child's skills in the different disciplines and keep their mind active. I might send home the Wordly Wise Vocabulary books to be done as optional enrichment. I haven't decided yet.

Writing Share Breakfast: Fri, Oct 21

Come support your child's writing efforts with a writing share. Students will have a class breakfast as they listen to the writing samples of their peers. Writing is such an important skill, and it's important to start now since it's one of the most difficult disciplines for students. Hope to see you there. It starts at 9:00 AM.

Picture Day Make-Ups

You can still order pictures if you send in forms. I can give them to one of our assistant principals and they will send them to the picture company. There will be make-ups soon if your child missed school pictures. I don't know the date yet.

VGA Math Testing October 6

The Virginia Growth Assessment will be done twice a year (fall and winter). The purpose of these tests is to measure growth and to target areas of need. These tests are similar to our SOLs (Standards of Learning) state tests which will be taken in the spring. For third grade our VGA testing schedule is as follows:

Fall..............Reading: Sep 27 and Math: Oct 6

Winter........Reading: Dec 6 and Math: Dec 15.
