Academics (Summary of this past week's learning)

Math- Students learned how to count area and perimeter of shapes. They measured perimeter of rectangles and other shapes using a ruler with inches and centimeters.

Reading- Students are doing SOL review to prepare for our upcoming test on May 10. We are also focusing on reading for pleasure, as test review can present itself dull on occasion. Your child is also working on their Lexia goal to finish level 15 by the end of the year, which is the completion of third grade content.

Word Study- We are reviewing word study concepts that we have learned this year. We reviewed prefixes, suffixes, and contractions.

Writing- Students are working to write a persuasive review about a store, movie, book, video game, etc. We are planning the review in an outline-style organizer. There will be a "thesis" with three supporting details with elaboration on each detail. The finished piece will consist of five paragraphs including introduction, support one, support two, support three, and conclusion.

Science- Students are putting their knowledge of soil to the test by providing a solution to the soil problem outside in the schoolyard. They are crafting a letter to admin summarizing their learning of soil and how they propose to solve the particular area of the playground that they want to fix.

Academic Work at Home

If you are looking for academic work for your child to complete when there is a day off school, if your child will be staying home and is well enough to do work, or maybe you are traveling and you'd like to bring some work with them, then here are some recommendations. These are all programs which are done on the computer.
